Omaha Fashion Week 2024: Design Powerhouses Ramp-up the Runway

     Luxury. Glamour. Innovation. Audacity. Omaha Fashion Week 2024 was willing to share these attributes with us to the maximum during the Audacious Season. Designers from a litany of distinct and fascinating backgrounds converged at the Omaha Design Center for four nights of  expressive and evocative designs that will stay in our memory well past this event. This year consisted of four nights with the following themes: Student Night designers, Bold designers, Brazen designers and Brilliant designers. Each collection reflected the arduous labor and passion imbued within by its creator. Below is only a small sampling of the endless amount of dazzling menswear and women's wear put out by the week's selected designers. 

NIGHT ONE: STUDENT NIGHT

  




      






OFW 2024 Student Night was the premier event of this Audacious Season. Student Night provides an opportunity to local high school and college students to display their designs on the main stage. Designers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Blue Bird Cultural Initiative, FCCLA, and Nebraska 4-H displayed the talent and skills of aspiring designers who want to get their voice and message out to the world. The collection of images shows the diversity of construction, inspiration, and symbolism that each designer on night one brought out to OFW. 

NIGHT TWO: BOLD DESIGNERS

Continuing our event with the bold night, where a new batch of designers use their adventuring minds to create pieces that battle against the normal conventions of fashion and how we should wear clothing in the day to day. The selection below encapsulates rich designs that steer fashion away from convention and into an unexplored territory. Designs featured come from Studio Rae, House of Chelette, I'm Hooked on Stuffies, and Yet Luxxe.

   



NIGHT THREE: BRAZEN DESIGNERS
    Night three transported guests into a world where diverse fashion takes were able to draw from similar themes and still imbue unique visions into pieces with similar construction underneath. Designer Meena Pittman of Cardiovascuwhore does this by taking pieces that have the construction of tradition womenswear, and ripping the life out of them. While graphic, the designer does this with a purpose. The intent of these grungy, gashed garments is to display the true nature of being a woman in modern society. To her, the best way to show true feminity is to bare all your insides to the world. This is just a sampling of the innovation and creativity that ran all throughout the minds of the Brazen Designers of OFW 2024.  

    





 








   
 
 
                   

NIGHT FOUR: BRILLIANT DESIGNERS

Our capstone Saturday event was the perfect finale to a dazzling showcase of designers. Brilliant night designers managed to bring the audacious theme to its pinnacle with provocative, elegant designs. On this night, guests were treated to chromatic renditions of garments that displayed the tenacity and skill of the selected designers.

    Inspired by cinematic style shots, I have curated the selection below to display a more simplistic setup for photography. Using store brand lamps, a phone flash, and a tripod, I found it was still possible to create a fun lighting situation that reminds me of a still from a movie. I find myself making photos much cooler in light temp, so with these low light shots I wanted to try and experiment with a warmer hue.

Venture into the Old World

      I finally found some time for myself during this busy year, and I was fortunate enough to get wrangled into a trip out to England and Portugal with a couple of my friends. Below are some selections from that trip. I found everything to be so exciting. London is a city that always has something to offer. It has a hurried pace that thrills the eyes and heart with movement and activity. Contrast this to Southern Portugal, where the pace of life slows to a crawl in the best way possible. Musical talents abound this region, where you'll often hear bossa nova taken from Brazil or a pianist playing a rendition of modern pop. While vastly different in pace, the lust for life seems to be just as fervent in both of these diverse regions.
